Identify your Requirements: You can’t simply decide to scatter pendant lights in your kitchen. It might work by fluke but in most cases, you will end up with either too many lights or harsh illumination.
In the garden, lights can really make the space come alive. Having lights in the trees and lights near to a table will ensure you can eat outside all year round (subject to the temperature of course!) Another aspect of outside lighting is for security purposes. Having a light that comes on when there is motion nearby can be a very effective deterrent for anyone wishing to break into your home. Being lit up, the house can be clearly visible from all around and this makes it much less likely to be targeted by burglars. Interior lighting can also work as a good security measure. Leaving a few lights on around the home that are clearly visible from outside makes the house appear to be occupied so think about this when planning your home lighting too.
Will there be other media such as video projection? If you are using special event lighting such as lasers and LED screens then it is imperative that the rest of your lighting does not overwhelm the main event. You may wish to choose a more simple setup to accommodate for special effects.
